Amibition-- not just a cologne

I don't know when it happened, but I was struck with a dose of ambition today when I decided to make homemade tortillas. I guess it started when I read PioneerWoman's blog about a month or so ago and this was the topic. Since then, it was just that annoying monkey on my back... must make tortillas, must make tortillas, must make tortillas! However skeptical I was when starting this morning, the recipe turned out to be pretty easy and I think they ended up being pretty darn good....

I had to roll them pretty darn thin with a rolling pin

Then throw them on the griddle

Hers were probably a little prettier than mine, but they were really good! Too bad we didn't have any cheese dip.

NOW for the cute stuff....
Weston helped Matt play video games while I made tortillas

but then was worn out while we watched the USA lose to Ghana in the World Cup

Flexible

I don't have the right words to narrate this series of pictures, and since a picture is worth a thousand words... I think they speak for themselves. Enjoy

Playdate or Love?

Weston had his first real playdate today with Ella Peters-- her mom, Mia and I worked at Griffin together and she had Ella in February, so the kids are only 2 months different in age. Ella is such a sweet baby-- so petite compared to my brute of a boy!

It started out slow, as soon as they arrived, both kids had to eat, and as soon as Weston had his bottle, he pretty much fell asleep. Though when he woke up, Ella fell asleep! However, we did get some great shots of the two of them "playing" together. Both were very sweet to each other for the most part. Weston did try to steal Ella's binky, but only after she tried to poke his eye out. Either way-- no tears were drawn.

Weston got a little too excited!

My 3 Dads

I have been truly blessed to have been surrounded by amazing men all my life.

My dad and I may have had a long distance relationship most of my life, but I never doubted how much he cared about me and always had-- and still has-- my best interest at heart. He always urged me, sometimes with a heavy hand, to do well in my studies-- it paid off. Now I urge my students-- with the same heavy hand-- to do well in school (not just my class, even though it IS the most important). Knowing how important a good education is and being able to take advantage of it--that is a great gift.

Jim, my other dad, and I have always shared a special bond. He says it's because I am the youngest of his girls, but I know it's because I am the most awesome! He is a quiet man who thinks about what he's going to say before he says it. He is incredibly loyal to those he cares about and has taught me the importance of a strong work ethic. He has taught me all he knows and that's a lot.

Now I have the pleasure of watching my husband be the best father in the world to our son of 5.75 months. From the very beginning, when he was the one to tell me I was pregnant, his excitement about fatherhood and his hands on enthusiasm has meant the world to me-- and to Weston, who lights up when his dad comes into the room! Matt has never grimaced about changing a diaper, having to get up at night or early in the morning, or even being spit up on. He is a calm, patient, and giving father. Weston really does have the greatest father-- the best of both of my dads rolled into one.

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY

Pool!

Yesterday, Weston and I headed up to Big Canoe, the mountain community where my folks just bought a new house. There, they have an in ground pool that is right next to the lake with a beach. Since Tracy and her brood were going up to stay over night and hang out at the pool, I thought it'd be the perfect time to take Weston to the pool for the first time. He loves bath time, so I was sure he'd love the pool.

He was actually unsure of it at first, but he never cried while in the pool and I think I even saw a smile or two. After the pool, Tracy and I went out to the beach. While I woudn't let Weston touch the sand with his hands-- he will put anything and everything in his mouth right now... teething... but he did love to squish the sand between his toes! Unfortunately, he got hungry and I left his "food" at mom and Jim's house, so mom and I head back to the house for his bottle and a nap.

I must have worn him out because he took a good long, almost 2 hour afternoon nap! I'm sure we'll be making more trips to the pool this year!

Make'n Daddy Proud

Weston is apparently very musically inclined-- if he's over tired and can't fall asleep, music in the background can usually help calm him down, and it can be any kind of music really.

So Matt gave Weston his 1st drum lesson the other night. Towards the end of the "lesson" Weston was even holding on to the stick by himself... then he dropped it on the ground... babies!
